Schools seeking support through Fonetti sponsorship

Monteagle Primary School

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

The Fonetti Reading Challenge was a big hit with the children. They liked seeing how well they were reading and seeing the reading interests displayed on the screen.

The information that teachers can gain from the app regarding the children's progress is invaluable.

The app can help to target reading interventions precisely, picking up word difficulties and targeting those specific words.

We could also have an insight into children's reading interests, which in turn would make choosing which books to stock the library with much more accurate. This would then support the children's reading interests and further support their motivation to read.

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

We currently have a large number of children in our school well below age-related expectations in reading. We are a junior school which makes it difficult to ensure early reading is targeted for those children where phonics sessions have not been successful.

After the summer read-aloud challenge, we knew we had to find something to support these children in school after other programs/schemes have either been too expensive or time consuming. Also, we are stretched with adults to deliver.

We would just love to offer our children the opportunity to approach reading in a different way.

What would sponsorship of Fonetti mean for your school?

Having this sponsorship would mean giving our bottom 20% readers the very best chance throughout their junior years. We really feel that our reading offer is improving all of the time for our children but we’re still trying to bridge the gap for our early readers. We loved Fonetti during the summer challenge and a sponsorship like this would give us a huge opportunity to support those who need it most.

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

We were highly impressed with Fonetti when we used it over the summer, particularly for students with English as an Additional Language (EAL). Its text-to-speech function, visual cues, and diverse book selection provide essential language support, helping EAL students improve their listening, speaking, and reading skills in an engaging, low-pressure environment.

Fonetti also holds great potential to address our growing literacy gap among Pupil Premium students. Its personalised and interactive approach helps engage struggling readers, offering tailored content that fosters confidence and progression.

Additionally, promoting reading for pleasure is a key focus for us this year, and Fonetti’s enjoyable and immersive platform can help transform reading into a fun and rewarding experience. We believe Fonetti would be an invaluable tool in supporting both our EAL and Pupil Premium learners while fostering a love for reading across the school.

Alderman Richard Hallam Primary School

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

We feel that our school would benefit from Fonetti as, after the 14 day free trial, we saw a great up-take in the number of pupils who were reading at home.

It was particularly impactful for those families who struggle with reading themselves or work shift patterns and are therefore unable to read with their children. Furthermore student engagement with reading, through the Fonetti app, increased greatly and it was wonderful to hear the pupils discussing how much they enjoyed using the app and the range of stories and books that were on there.

It was also noticed that the reading skills development of pupils, particularly in KS1 and EYFS, was very positive as they were able to read at home utilising the app.

What would sponsorship of Fonetti mean for your school?

Fonetti sponsorship would mean that those underprivileged pupils in our school, especially in a diverse city such as Leicester, would be able to access technology to support their learning. Furthermore, this sponsorship would enable the pupils in our school who struggle to access reading at home, to be supported and to make progress. This would be especially useful through Fonetti due to the fact that Fonetti would allow them to independently support one of the most important aspects of learning - reading.

St Vincent's Catholic Primary School

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

We used the summer read aloud challenge and it was very popular with our children. We had positive feedback from many parents, especially parents of boys and reluctant readers. The children were enthusiastic about the website and brought in the certificates they achieved to be shared in our celebration assemblies.
We have shared the information regarding the scheme on our twitter page and weekly newsletter, the parents have regularly discussed the scheme with staff at the beginning and end of the day and their comments were 100% positive. We did not see the usual slump in reading at the beginning of this school year, which demonstrates the schemes effectiveness. With new research showing that reading for pleasure is in decline we feel this has already had a positive impact on our children and being able to continue the scheme would allow this to be advantageous to our pupils. We would love to continue to use the scheme, however, the cost has made this impossible.
We are looking forward to attending your finalists day in January and bringing our top two readers with us.

We have loved using the summer reading challenge and were keen to continue using it. However, rising costs and the rise in children requiring additional support means that we are unable to find the cost, which is a real shame.
We have a newly launched Friends and Family of St Vincent's group, who we approached but as they are in the early stages they could not commit to funding it at this time.
We feel this scheme could benefit all of the children in out school as we are in an area of deprivation, with some of our families having no access to reading material at home. This app means that we can provide quality reading experiences for all.

Sketchley Hill Primary

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

We are seeing a growing number of children who are not read with at home which is having a huge impact on their attainment across the curriculum. Fonetti could support these pupils to keep up with their peers. It is also something that we could use in school as an intervention to help children build their reading miles and fluency. Out pupils are increasingly online and it would be great if that online time could be beneficail.

What would sponsorship of Fonetti mean for your school?

It would mean we could offer it to all of our pupils. Budgets are incredibly tight, especially for schools like ours that are not in a typically deprived area and do not meet the government's thresholds for additional funding due to Free School Meals. However, we are seeing a massive decrease in parental input and support and are struggling to make up this deficit in school time. It would also be an additional way we could support our learners with learning difficulties such as dyslexia.

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

We are committed to ensuring all our students reach their chronological reading age (CRA) by the end of Year 9.

To support this goal, we aim to incorporate Fonetti into our provision, focusing on promoting reading for pleasure. Initially, we plan to target low-achieving boys to improve their engagement, as national data highlights a decline in reading habits, academic interest, and attainment among male students.

Ogbourne CE Primary School

What positive impact could Fonetti have on your pupils?

As well as developing the children's confidence and fluency - Fonetti would promote reading for pleasure. Our dedication as a school to fostering a strong reading culture has been recognised by Ofsted recently. The use of Fonetti will allow more options for the children to make their own reading choices - therefore promoting life long readers - not just system readers. We appreciate that the child's choice is as important as the teachers' direction once they have cracked the reading code. We also recognise that there are pupils in our school who have fewer opportunities to practise reading aloud to an adult or older listener. Personalised feedback from Fonetti will help the pupils to correct mistakes immediately therefore helping children improve faster. We know that reading aloud in class can be intimidating for some of our pupils and Fonetti would give them the opportunity to practise without fear of embarrassment in a safe environment.
The reading date provided by Fonetti would be very useful to teachers to identify patterns and sounds that students struggle with most and tailor targeted interventions most effectively. As a small school we have very few adults available to listen to children reading 1:1 - Fonetti would really aid this process by giving us another option for children to read out loud every day whilst still monitoring progress through checking accuracy and fluency as well as mistakes.

What would sponsorship of Fonetti mean for your school?

As a small village, rural primary school we have very tight budget but would very much like to access the platform. We had excellent feedback from children and parents of those who participated in the challenge and so we know that we would have a large number of families who would engage with the platform if we were able to offer it.
